NIGHTS AWAY

Updated 30 May 2011

The Nights Away Permit, as defined by the Scout Association, is operated at district level. Applications are assessed by the Nights Away Adviser (John Harvey), who makes a recommendation to the District Commissioner.  The DC makes the decision to award a permit.  (Nights Away Application Form)

Based on the applicants level of knowledge and experience a permit will be issued for a specific level ranging from indoors to greenfield and light weight camping.  Permits are usually issued for five years and are renewed following an update of the individual experience.

First Time Applicants - the requirements as set out in the Nights Away Permit Scheme fact sheet which is available on Scoutbase.   A practical assessment may be undertaken.

f

Renewals - can be granted after an informal chat to validate recent experience.  If a higher level of authorisation is required, the Nights Away Adviser will check the applicants relevant experience.

Leaders whose authorisation are due for renewal will be contacted by the Nights Away Adviser.
