Selby Wood Scout Campsite

Welcome to Blyth Valley District’s Selby Wood Scout Campsite. This quiet, idyllic site is set in the heart of rural Northumberland and opened for camping in the summer of 2004. The campsite has been developed with the kind permission of land owners Shirley and Bob Potts.

Over 770 indigenous trees have been planted on the 1.1 hectare site under a DEFRA and Forestry Commission Scheme. Sandstone pulled up by ploughs over the decades of farming, is being used to build features around the site.

The site may be basic but the original concept was to develop a campsite to provide a traditional “Back to Basics” camping facility. Past visitors have complemented our team on their achievements and some have returned on numerous occasions.

Selby Wood is also ideal for groups participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Local school children, as well as Scouts and Guides, have used Selby Wood as an overnight stop during their expeditions. We are hoping to collate successful route plans soon.
